If you use apps like Spotify for the soundtrack to your morning commute, you'll be painfully aware that some artists have taken the decision to remove their music from the service.
In those cases - if you're a bit broke and can't splash out on the album until payday- you might find yourself resorting to YouTube for your Taylor Swift fix.
But then you face the issue that you can't do ANYTHING else with your phone until the song finishes - no messaging on WhatsApp for you - and you can't
If any of this sounds familiar, then the iPhone hack explained by Shortlist will be music to your ears (pun intended).
How to listen to music without having to watch the video
1. Open Safari
This is very important. If you have the YouTube app, do NOT use it.
The video has to be opened in the Safari browser. If you do have the app and your iPhone issues the 'Open in YouTube' prompt, just hit 'cancel'.
2. Find your track
Use the search function to find the song you want to listen to and begin playing it as usual.
3. Hit the Home button
Without pausing or stopping the video, press the Home button to return your iPhone to the main menu. It also works if you lock the phone.
4. Open Control Centre
Drag your finger up from the bottom of your screen to open the Control Centre (where you would change brightness, activate airplane mode etc).
You should see the title of your video displaying above the play button.
5. Hit play and enjoy
You should now be able to listen to music without having the video open. You're welcome.
