Galaxy S7 launch: FIVE things Samsung’s next flagship needs to be an iPhone killer

COMING SOON:The Galaxy S7 will launch next Sunday

Last year's Galaxy S6 put the Korean tech giant firmly back on the smartphone map.

After the disappointment of the plastic Galaxy S5, the new glass design and stunning curved display on the S6 edge meant Samsung won every award going in 2015.

Now the firm will show off what’s to come in 2016 at its famous Unpacked event in Barcelona next Sunday.

There’s already plenty of rumours and leaked images of Samsung’s next smartphone but here’s what we hope they've managed to squeeze inside the Galaxy S7.

HUMP: Samsung are thought to be reducing the camera bump on the S7's back

GET RID OF THAT BUMP

There’s no doubt that the Galaxy S6 edge was the best looking phone of 2015.

With its metal and glass finish and stunning curved display, this smartphone made the rest of the flagship competition look decidedly mediocre.

But there was one blemish which came in the form of the ugly camera hump slapped in the middle of its back.

All rumours suggest this has been reduced on the S7 to create a more flush and streamlined finish.

If Samsung has managed to get rid of the bump, the best looking smartphone could soon score a perfect 10 for style.

BETTER BATTERY

Samsung is still one of the leaders when it comes to battery life and the Galaxy S6 certainly had plenty of power.

The Korean firm also included wireless charging on the S6 which made it easier and faster to fill.

Whilst the S6 was good, the dream of more than a days full use is still not a reality and it’s the last big problem all smartphone manufacturers have yet to fix.

Rumours suggest the S7 will have a bigger battery and still be charged wirelessly, but let’s hope Samsung can make this new flagship last a little longer and finally include a wireless charging dock in the box.

EXTRAS: The S6 edge screen didn't offer enough features

MORE EDGE FEATURES

The S6 edge was by far the best smartphone of 2016.

However, although the curved display looked stunning many criticised its functionality.

Samsung included a few neat functions to take advantage of the curved screen but there was no killer feature.

We fully expect Samsung to unveil an S7 edge at their Unpacked event and perhaps the curve will finally do more than just look pretty on the new device.

DRINK: The Galaxy S5 was waterproof but the S6 couldn't cope with the drink

MAKE IT WATERPROOF AND ADD MORE MEMORY

Samsung managed it on the Galaxy S5 but failed to include water resistance on the S6.

Sony continues to make its devices waterproof and surviving a trip down the loo is a key feature for many smartphone fans.

Rumours are suggesting Apple’s iPhone 7 may finally feature a waterproof case so it would make sense for Samsung to bring this technology back to its flagship phones.

Another feature that went missing on the S6 was the ability to add more memory via an MicroSD card.

This didn't go down well with the Samsung faithful and many would like to see it make a return on the S7 – this would also give it a major advantage over its iPhone rival.

BUDGET: Phones such as the OnePlus 2 offer top specs for a budget price

MAKE IT CHEAPER

When Samsung first revealed the price of the S6 and S6 edge many were shocked by its wallet-busting price.

Samsung appeared to listen and a few months after launch prices began to plummet.

There's a lot of new Android phones hitting the market and many feature top-end specs at a much cheaper price.

To make the S7 a success it will need to offer good value for money and this could be the cheapest Galaxy Samsung has ever released.
