Apple has supposedly partnered with Energous to use its WattUp wire-free charging system in future smartphones, according to a report from the New York Post. This system is made up of a "tiny" chip and a charging beacon. This chip is capable of receiving power from a transmitter, even if in a pocket, once within range of the beacon.
This would mean that users could be less proactive in charging their devices, as they would do so automatically once in range of the beacon. And it offers a degree of freedom not currently offered by current wireless technology solutions.
No launch date has been set for the iPhone 7 just yet.
