Since it was introduced with other similar models in the Lumia series, Nokia Lumia 635 does not differ much when it comes to size and construction. It has an excellent build quality and feels sturdy in our hands. After many hours spent with it, we didn’t experience any discomfort or fatigue. The back cover is made out of fairly thick plastic giving it additional structural support. Hardware buttons are on the right side, while the upper side has a 3.5mm audio jack and micro USB on the underside. Turn it around and you will find a 5 megapixel camera at the top and a speaker at the bottom. When it comes to style and individuality, Nokia Lumia 635 provides a wide array of color casings giving you freedom of expression. It fits perfectly in the palm of your hand, having dimensions of 5.1 x 2.63 x 0.36in or 129.5 x 66.7 x 9.2mm, weighing in 4.73 ounces or 134gr.
Display-wise, Lumia Nokia Lumia 635 sports a respectable 4.5-inch IPS-LCD screen putting out a resolution of 480 x 854. Viewing angles are exceptional and despite a lower ppi density (pixel density of 218 ppi), you won’t notice any pixelation due to the nature of Windows Phone interface. Colors are bright and vivid making Windows Phone tiles look their best. Outdoor performance was spectacular as well, but the lack of ambient light sensor means you have to adjust brightness manually. Once you get used to it, it will only take a fraction of a second and become second nature.
Nokia Lumia 635 is equipped with an ever popular choice, the quad-core 1.2GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor and packs a decent 512MB of RAM. When it comes to storage, Nokia Lumia 635 has 8GB of internal storage, of which around 5GB is user available. For average users, that should prove more than enough. Those looking for more can pop in a microSD card and expand the memory up to 128GB. As an avid technology fan you’ll start thinking that 512MB is not nearly enough for your daily tasks, but you couldn’t be more wrong. Windows Phone 8.1 runs beautifully with only 512MBs and there is no apparent lag. You can even play some of the more demanding games without any issues. Like the old saying goes, you can’t judge a book by its cover.
The 5 megapixel camera is not accompanied by a flash; however, decent photos can still be made. Camera interface can be reached only through a dedicated app, but focusing is blazing fast and sharp. Two apps come preloaded for taking photos; Window Phone app and Nokia’s proprietary app, both equally good at capturing photos and extremely easy to navigate. Videos are recorded in 720p resolution, having clear audio and focus. We were genuinely surprised with the overall quality and by Lumia’s ability to capture quality images without having flash.
Microsoft’s new mobile platform offers plenty of features to usher you into a new era of smartphones. Combining those software features with a phone which offers 4G connectivity, sleek looks and miniscule price tag, couldn’t get any better.
